J. Bruce Bugg, Jr.

Mr. Bugg is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Argyle Investment Co., LLC, a private investment firm and serves as Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Southwest Bancshares, Inc., and is also Chairman of the Board of The Bank of San Antonio, a Texas state non-member bank with approximately $150 million in assets.

In 1984, Mr. Bugg was the Founder of Southwest Bankers, Inc., a bank holding company formed to acquire and own the original Bank of San Antonio, where he served as Director, President and Chief Executive Officer. He also served as a Director and General Counsel for Bank of San Antonio, as well as various Director’s committees for subsidiary banks.

In 1995, Compass Bancshares, Inc of Birmingham, AL acquired Southwest Bankers, and Mr. Bugg then served as “Of Counsel” to Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP in San Antonio, Texas. In 1996, Mr. Bugg served as Vice Chairman of First Southwest Company and Chairman of the Investment Banking Group of First Southwest Company in Dallas, Texas until he formed Argyle Investment Co., LLC in 1997. From 1998 until September 2006, Mr. Bugg served on the Board of Directors of Consolidated Water Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: CWCO) on the Audit, Nominating and Strategic Planning Committees.

Mr. Bugg is Chairman and Trustee of The Tobin Endowment, a private charitable foundation in San Antonio, Texas. He currently serves as Chairman and President of the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees of the McNay Art Museum, Trustee of St. Mary’s Hall, Trustee of the Texas Research and Technology Foundation and Former Chairman of its Enterprise Technology Committee, and member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Audit Committee of The Santa Fe Opera in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is former Chairman of the Board of Governors of Cancer Therapy & Research Center.

 



Michael A. Schott, CPA

Michael “Mickey” Schott is a certified public accountant and current shareholder in the Tsakopulos, Brown Schott & Anchors accounting firm. He has more than 30 years experience in public accounting and industry, including 12 years in various financial management positions in the oil and gas industry. He is a member of several professional associations including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the San Antonio Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Mr. Schott received his B.B.A in Accounting from St. Mary’s University 1968. Shortly after, he joined the U.S. Army Field Artillery where he served as a First Lieutenant. He later attended Harvard Business School and completed their Owner/President Management Program in 1981. He has won several awards including the 1998 Library Champion Award from the San Antonio Public Library, the 1999 Distinguished Alumnus from St. Mary’s University, and the 2002 Athletics Hall of Fame for Baseball from St. Mary’s University.

Mickey currently serves as a Board Member and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital Foundation, and as a Trustee of the Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital Endowment. He also serves as a Trustee of the Board, member of the Investment Committee, and Chairman of the Audit and Ethics Committee at St. Mary’s University.

Mickey held previous positions at other civic organizations including Board Member of Los Compadres De San Antonio Missions National Historic Park, President of the San Antonio Public Library Foundation, Chairman of The Board of Trustees of the San Antonio Public Library System, and Chairman of the Board of the Urban Libraries Council of the American Library Association.

 


Whitney E. Solcher, CFA

Whitney Solcher is the President of San Antonio Capital Management, a Registered Investment Advisor. She is responsible for overseeing investment strategies, manager selection and capital allocation. Whitney is also the head wealth advisor and spends the majority of her time ensuring our client families receive appropriate investment advice, tailored to their individual needs.

Prior to her role with San Antonio Capital Management, Whitney spent eight years with Goldman, Sachs & Co. in their Investment Management Division, where she held the title of Vice President after roles as a Financial Analyst and Associate with the firm. While at Goldman, Whitney advised some of the most successful entrepreneurs and businessmen in the state of Texas. Her responsibilities included risk analysis, asset allocation, manager selection, and estate and charitable planning.

Whitney is a graduate of The University of Texas Business Honors Program with a second Major in Finance. She is a CFA charterholder and member of the CFA Institute and the San Antonio CFA Chapter. A CFA charterholder represents a tremendous reservoir of investment expertise, having demonstrated commitment to the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct, and comprehensive knowledge of investments and analytics.

Whitney holds positions on the boards of the Witte Museum, Founder’s Council for The Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, The San Antonio River Foundation, and the UTSA Center for Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship. She is a past board member of Saint Mary’s Hall and currently serves on the Investment Committee. She is also a member of the Alamo Colleges Investment Committee, and past Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Finance Committee.

 


Rebecca A. Crowder, CWS, CSOP

Rebecca "Becky" Crowder is the President & CCOO of San Antonio Trust Company, LLC, our SEC Registered Investment Advisor. She is responsible for all risk management, compliance and operations. Prior to her role with San Antonio Capital Management, Rebecca spent 30 years in the financial services industry. She spent 15 years at United Services Automobile Association (USAA) in their Wealth Management Division, where she held the title of Assistant Vice President of Wealth Management and Trust. While at USAA, Rebecca led the high-net-worth client servicing teams supporting the areas of financial planning, investment management and trust services. Her responsibilities included Vice Chairperson of the Trust Operating Committee, client services and implementation, operations, risk management, and liaison for internal and external audit/compliance. Prior to USAA, she served as Assistant Vice President/Corporate Trust at Bank of New York, and as Vice President of Frost National Bank in the areas of Corporate Trust, Credit, and Internal Audit.

Rebecca is a graduate of The University of Texas at San Antonio with a degree in Accounting and a concentration in Business Data Systems. She also holds a Diploma in Bank Operations from the Bank Administration Institute. Rebecca is a Certified Wealth Strategist®, Certified Securities Operations Professional, and previously held a General Securities Representatives Series 7 license..

 



Richard T. Schlosberg, III

Richard “Dick” Schlosberg serves on the Board of Directors and as the Chairman of the Audit Committee for both Southwest Bancshares, Inc. and The Bank of San Antonio. He is the immediate past President and Chief Executive Officer of the David and Lucille Packard Foundation, one of the nation’s largest philanthropic foundations, where he served since 1999. During his five-year tenure, the Packard Foundation made over $2 billion in grants to non-profit organizations worldwide.

Mr. Schlosberg is a 23-year veteran of the communications business. He was Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Times from 1994 to 1999, after serving as President and Chief Operating Officer from 1988 to 1994. From 1983 to 1988, he served as Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of the Denver Post, another Times Mirror Company newspaper. Mr. Schlosberg began his newspaper career at San Antonio-based Harte-Hanks Communications, and from 1980 to 1983, he was President of Harte-Hanks Newspaper Operations.

Mr. Schlosberg continues to be very active in civic and professional organizations. He is currently a board member of Edison International in Southern California and eBay, Inc. located in the Silicon Valley. He is also the Chairman of the Board of the Kaiser Family Foundation and is a Founding Director of the U.S. Air Force Academy Endowment. His previous board affiliations include the Smithsonian Institution, the USO, the National Audubon Society, Junior Achievement and Pomona College.

Mr. Schlosberg graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and earned his Master of Business Administration degree, with honors, from the Harvard Business School. In 2003, he was recognized by the Air Force Academy and named one of its distinguished graduates, an honor which has been given to only twelve others.

 



John C. Kerr

John is Principal of Moorman-Kerr Interests, a company focused on diversified investments. He is Chairman and lead investor in Azaya Therapeutics, Inc., a cancer drug development company, and Chairman of Evestra, Inc. a women’s healthcare related company. In addition to these responsibilities, John held the Interim President position at Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research from 2006-2008. Prior to his work at Moorman-Kerr, John held positions with several firms in the financial industry including, Harris Webb & Garrison, Kerr Connors & Co., and American Century Corp., where he was Chairman and CEO. John began his career as a securities lawyer at Andrews & Kurth, and became a partner at Cox & Smith when he moved to San Antonio.

John currently serves on several boards including Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, the Admiral Nimitz Foundation, the Texas Public Financial Authority, the McNay Art Museum, The Menninger Clinic Foundation, Texas Research & Technology Foundation, San Antonio Medical Foundation, Kronkosky Charitable Foundation, The Environmental Defense Fund, and the Advisory Council for the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Austin.

John is a graduate of Stanford University with an A.B. in History and received his J.D. from The University of Texas Law School. John has a keen interest in World War II, and has written and published two books on the topic.

 



James W. Collins

James "Jim" Collins is the General Partner of Rioco Partners, Ltd., based in McAllen, Texas. Rioco is involved in the management of real estate investments, development, property management, and brokerage, as well as private equity and venture capital. In addition, Jim manages Mayfair Properties, a family investment office with interests in oil and gas, real estate, private equity and agribusiness. Jim was the Organizer and Advisor of Inter National Bank, which he sold recently.

Prior to these roles, Jim was the Assistant VP of Operations and Corporate Secretary for Sunshine Mining Company in Dallas, which held interests in silver mining, oil and gas, and real estate.

Jim is Manager and Director of the James W. Collins Family Foundation, as well as Manager, Director and Treasurer of the Loring Cook Foundation. Jim is involved in many additional business activities, including Founding Shareholder of Southwest Bancshares, and Directorships with Alta Canada, Oasis Bank, Texas State Life Insurance, Copy Zone, Petroleum Solutions, R&H Food Service, South Texas GMC-Buick-Pontiac, Saturn of McAllen, Latin American Realty, Waldo’s Mart, and Edwards Abstract and Title Company. Past Directorships include, Sundowner Offshore Services, Bushmills Energy Corp, Texas State Bank, and Texas Regional Bancshares. Jim is a member of the McAllen, Texas, and National Board of Realtors, ICSC, Texas Independent Producers of Royalty Owners Association, Southwest Cattle Raisers Association, Texas Wildlife Association, Institute for Private Investors, Family Office Exchange, and the President’s Forum Entrepreneurship Institute of San Antonio.

Jim is active in the community and currently serves as Director to the Texas Business Hall of Fame, RGV Business PAC, and Valley Baptist Health System, and as Advisory Director to the University of Texas Pan American College of Business Administration, Ronald McDonald House, McAllen Economic Development Revolving Loan, and Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Institute, Quail and Deer. Jim is also Co-Trustee of the Ely Unitrust for the Rio Grande Children’s Home. Jim has been a member of the Board of Trustees for Texas Lyceum, Vice President for the Texas Business Hall of Fame, and Treasurer and member of the Board of Trustees for St. John Episcopal Day School.

 



Alan W. Dreeben

Alan Dreeben is a Partner and member of the Board of Directors at Republic Nation Distributing Company, the second largest distributor of premium wine and spirits in the United States, employing over 6,000 nationwide.  

In addition to his business activities, Alan also serves as Advisory Director to Cullen Frost Bank, is Chairman of the Wine Advisory Committee for the Texas Department of Agriculture, a member of the Texas Governor’s Business Council, Director of the Texas State University Foundation, Member of The Institute of Masters of Wine-North America, Trustee Chair of Academic Affairs for the University of the Incarnate Word, member of the Executive Committee of The University of Texas Chancellor’s Council, Vice Chair of the McCombs School of Business Advisory Council and Trustee of the MSB Foundation, Member of the University of Texas Development Board, and Secretary for the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America Executive Committee.  Previous board activities include positions with Alamo Heights High School, Texas State University , Trinity University, and UTSA.

Alan is also extremely active in the community as well, holding positions with the American Cancer Society, Any Baby Can, the Charity Ball Association, the Harry Jersig Speech/Hearing Center, the Jewish Community Campus, KLRN Wine Tasting, Los Compadres, the McNay Art Museum, Mission Road Development Center, Paseo del Rio Association, San Antonio Museum of Art, Santa Rosa’s Children’s Hospital Foundation, Southwest Foundation, and the United Way.

Alan has been presented with the “Outstanding Individual in Wine Business” award by the Dallas Morning News, received the Ethics Award from The University of Texas San Antonio, the Chairman’s Award from Texas State University System, and the “Man of the Year” award by the New World Wine & Food Organization.

 



John W. Feik

John W. Feik is president and chief operating officer of DFB Pharmaceuticals, Inc., parent company of DPT Laboratories Ltd. Mr. Feik is also chief operating officer of DPT Laboratories, Phyton gmbh, DFB Bioscience, Ltd and another DFB company, Healthpoint Ltd. He established DFB and subsidiary DPT in 1990 with a partner, after acquiring Alcon Laboratories’ San Antonio plant.

Mr. Feik has held various executive positions with Alcon since joining the Fort Worth-based company in 1970. DPT Laboratories was formed in 1990 from an Alcon company that operated under the name Dermatological Products of Texas. Under Mr. Feik’s leadership, DFB and its subsidiaries have grown from a small startup technology company to an internationally renowned pharmaceutical and biotech company, with annual sales exceeding $400 million.

Mr. Feik attended the University of Illinois as a pre med student. He later transferred to The University of Texas at Arlington, majoring in Chemistry before graduating with a degree in Finance. He was a member and the founding president of the Phi Delta Theta Chapter at the University of Texas at Arlington. In 2005 he made a significant gift that established the Feik School of Pharmacy at the University of the Incarnate Word.

In addition to managing his own businesses, Mr. Feik holds many board positions, such as the Board of Trustees of the University of the Incarnate Word, Texas Research Trust Foundation, Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, Briscoe Western Art Museum, South Texas Blood and Tissue Bank and Southwest Research Foundation.

 



James W. Gorman, Jr.

Since 1978, James “Jim” Gorman has been involved as a private investor. He has served on the boards of directors of Bexar County National Bank and Cullen Frost Bankers, Inc., where he has served as a Director for 27 years. Mr. Gorman was a founding shareholder of Southwest Bankers, which was acquired in 1995 by Compass Bancshares. Mr. Gorman currently serves on the Boards of Directors of Southwest Bancshares, Inc., The Bank of San Antonio, and Bandera 1st State Bank, and serves as Founding Chairman of The Bank of San Antonio.

Mr. Gorman Graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1952 with a degree in Geology. Following service as an Officer in the United State Air Force, which included a tour of duty in Korea, Mr. Gorman spent ten years in the oil and gas exploration and production business with his father at the Gorman Drilling Company. From 1964 to 1978, Mr. Gorman worked at Loeb Rhodes Hornblower and Company, a Wall Street investment banking and brokerage firm.

Mr. Gorman has been extensively involved in civic and philanthropic activities in San Antonio and the State of Texas, having been appointed to serve on various commissions and task forces by two Governors of the State of Texas, and by the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System. Mr. Gorman currently serves as Honorary Lifetime Member of the Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital, Trustee and Co-Founder of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center Endowment, Trustee Emeritus of the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, and member of the Board of Governors of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center.

Mr. Gorman has received numerous honors in the San Antonio area, including the Heart of Gold Award from the American Heart Association, Outstanding Philanthropist by the National Society of Fundraising Executives, Award for Public Service from the Department of the Army Commanders, and the 1999 Humanitarian Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice. Jim was recently honored by the San Antonio Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis and the Bexar County Medical Society, as well as awarded Doctor of Humane Letters by the University of Incarnate Word.

 



Steven Q. Lee

Steven “Steve” Lee is a native of San Antonio, Texas. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he earned B.B.A. and M.B.A. degrees. He began his career in the home building business in 1970, working for Royal Crest Homes in Houston, Texas. He returned to San Antonio in 1973 to join his father, Quincy Lee, in the industrial development business. In 1978, Steve and his co-worker Tom Perkins formed a partnership to purchase the warehousing business from Quincy Lee. Their company, Quincy Lee Interests, built speculative warehousing and office projects in San Antonio throughout the 1980s.

Steve and his brother, Bruce, currently manage the family investment business, focusing on real estate, securities funds, and investments in other local businesses. He is a founding shareholder and current board member of Southwest Bancshares, Inc., and a board member of The Bank of San Antonio.

 



Dr. Michael L. Murphy

Dr. Michael Murphy is Chairman of the Board and Founder of Christus Santa Rosa Physician Ambulatory Surgery Centers and the Foundation Surgical Hospital. He serves on the boards of Consultants in Pain Medicine, Star Anesthesia and The Bank Of San Antonio.

He has over 25 years experience in starting and running a variety of medical businesses, and has sold many in the past to both public and private corporations. He is currently developing a surgical hospital, a full-service imaging center, and is expanding the ambulatory surgery centers to better cover the San Antonio area.

Dr. Murphy attended the University of Texas in Austin and The University of Texas College of Pharmacy where he was a Rho Chi Scholar. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1983.

 



Margaret P. Pace

Margaret “Peggy” Pace has recently retired as President of Sullivan-Pace PLLC Commercial Mediation, a firm that practiced alternative dispute resolution, particularly pre-litigation mediation for business entities involved in commercial disputes. Mrs. Pace practiced for over 13 years, and has handled complex commercial litigation, including oil and gas, environmental and contract litigation. She has either participated in or conducted numerous mediations in addition to several arbitrations. As a litigator, Mrs. Pace has gained insight into the nature of commercial disputes and the anatomy of dispute resolution. As a mediator, she utilized this knowledge to enable the parties to resolve their disputes in a constructive and positive environment.

Prior to forming Sullivan-Pace PLLC, Mrs. Pace was a Shareholder at Cox & Smith Incorporated in San Antonio. She graduated Cum Laude from Tulane Law School and earned her bachelor's degree from Tulane University. She is a member of the State Bars of Texas and Louisiana, and the Bar Associations of the Supreme Court and Fifth Circuit.

Peggy's philanthropic endeavors include being a founding member and former Chair of the Women's Leadership Council.  In addition, she is on the National Board of the Women’s Leadership Council and is the Advocacy Chair for the organization, She is a former chair of the Women’s Legacy and Chair of Women of Alex de Tocqueville initiative, Executive Board Member of the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, member of the Public Policy Committee, and member of the Coordinating Council Committee. Furthermore, she is the former President and Capital Campaign Chair of St. Peter St. Joseph Children's Home, where she helped raise over six million dollars for the construction of a Recreation Therapy and Education Center.

 



Dr. Gurvinder Pal (G.P.) Singh

Dr. Singh, founder of Karta Technologies, Inc., is an innovator and an entrepreneur. He grew this business from one-man, garage operation to over 400 professionals, creating the largest San Antonio based defense contractor for professional services. Karta was acquired by NCI Information Systems, Inc (NCIT) while Dr Singh was the majority shareholder in June of 2007. Dr. Singh served on the Board of Directors of NCI Information Systems (Nasdaq: NCIT) from 2007 to 2010.

After receiving his Master and Ph.D. degrees from Drexel University in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics in 1976 and 1979 respectively, Dr. Singh joined Southwest Research Institute as a Senior Research Engineer. In 1985, Dr. Singh joined the engineering faculty at UTSA and in 1986 he formed Karta Technologies, Inc. Dr. Singh has published over 50 technical papers and numerous reports related to nondestructive evaluation, power plant maintenance and operations, artificial intelligence and computer based learning. In addition, Dr. Singh was granted six US patents for his inventions.

In 2001, Karta was named one of the Top 25 8(a) Information Technology Companies by Washington Technology. Also in 2001, Karta received the Pinnacle Award for Technology from the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce for outstanding achievement in information technology. In 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2002 the San Antonio Business Journal recognized Karta as one of the city’s fifty fastest growing companies. In 1999, Ernst and Young nominated Dr. Singh for Entrepreneur of the Year, and Karta was awarded the Technology Excellence Award by the North San Antonio Chamber of Commerce for demonstrated excellence through superior implementation of innovative approaches in the use of technology.

Dr. Singh is committed to community service and is currently very active in the community. He serves and has served on several boards and advisory committees including Trinity University, San Antonio Area Foundation, Rapier Educational Foundation, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Goodwill Industries, NCI Information System (NCIT), the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, Honorary Commander - 37th Training Wing at Lackland Air Force Base, College of Engineering of the University of Texas at San Antonio, Keystone School, United Way, JPMorgan Chase Bank, and Honorary Chairman for Challenger Learning Center.

 



Omar Akhil

Prior to joining San Antonio Capital Management as an Investment Advisor in July, 2011, Omar Akhil was the Associate Portfolio Manager of Black Swan Advisors, LP from May, 2007 to June, 2011. He assisted with all aspects of operations, manager research and selection, client service, and portfolio construction and analysis. He specialized in alternative investments and identified, researched, and helped allocate to a number of different investment opportunities while at Black Swan Advisors.

Prior to joining Black Swan Advisors, LP, Omar was a Senior Analyst at Indymac Bank, now known as OneWest Bank, a mortgage loan originating and servicing firm based in Pasadena, California from March, 2006 to May, 2008 where his responsibilities with respect to mortgage servicing included executive level operational cost analysis, budgeting, and reporting. Omar also served as an Associate Relationship Manager at Frost Bank, the largest Texas-based banking organization that operates only in Texas, from July, 2004 to March, 2006, where he focused on commercial underwriting. Prior to joining Frost Bank, Omar began his training in operational finance and managerial accounting at Washington Mutual from February 2003 to July 2004.

In 2001, Omar earned a BS in Business Administration (double concentration in Finance and Accounting), cum laude, from Trinity University. He also earned a Masters in Accounting from Trinity University in 2002. He is active in the Alamo Heights and Olmos Park community, providing tutoring services for children of all ages.
